Summary: if you are printing with Piezography BW ICC profiles, on a Mac OSX computer, you may have the wrong driver installed. This page tells you how to identify and replace your driver with the correct driver.
Background and Fix: Mac OSX computers come preloaded with a set of third-party printer drivers, known as Gimp or Gutenprint drivers. These third party drivers are not compatible with the Piezography BW ICC profiles and if used, will result in poor print quality.
You can tell if you have an Epson driver if you can make all of the required printer driver settings listed in the Piezography BW ICC Users’ Guide for your printer. If you cannot select the correct media type, or if you cannot select “no color adjustment,” you have a gimp driver.
Note, however, that if you have a 1280 printer and you see the correct settings for media type and for color management, but you do not see a setting for “1440 dpi,” that is a different issue- the newest Epson 1280 driver has changed its print quality setting choices from a dpi value to a description. If you have a newer driver, be sure to select “Best Photo,” which is equivalent to 1440 dpi.
If you determine that you have a gimp driver on your computer you may do one of two things:
Delete the gimp driver, and install a new driver from the Epson website,
Delete the gimp system using a small downloaded utility. Then install a new driver from the Epson website. You may download the Gimp uninstall utility from here.
